Privacy policy

How Jobs.ca collects, uses, shares, and protects information across our Canadian job marketplace.

Effective: October 6, 2026

1. Scope and accountability

This policy applies to Jobs.ca, its candidate and employer workspaces, and Jobs.ca network sites that link to this policy. The Jobs.ca operator is responsible for the personal information handled by these services.

Jobs.ca's Privacy Officer oversees compliance and responds to access, correction, deletion, consent, and complaint requests. Use the support form and choose the Privacy option, or email info@jobs.ca.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide, including account details, job preferences, saved searches, resumes, applications, candidate profiles, employer profiles, job postings, team memberships, support messages, and consent choices.

We also collect limited technical and service information needed to operate and protect the platform, such as session records, device and browser details, approximate location derived from a request, security events, and interactions with jobs or applications, such as the searches you run, the jobs you view, the apply buttons you click, and the links you click in our emails and texts.

Employers and job sources may provide job, organization, application, and hiring-workflow information. We keep source and ownership information so imported content can be reviewed and corrected.

3. How we use information

We use information to provide accounts and workspaces, show and match jobs, deliver alerts, process applications, support employer hiring workflows, maintain public profiles when requested, answer support requests, prevent abuse, and improve service reliability.

When account-level troubleshooting is necessary, an authorized Jobs.ca administrator may open a short-lived support view of the real account. The administrator, user, reason, start, expiry, and return time are recorded for accountability.

Selecting a résumé in the profile uploader explicitly requests automated profile setup. We send it to OpenAI to extract structured information, with provider storage disabled. The extracted information fills missing private profile fields without replacing information you already entered, and you can review or edit it at any time.

Recommendations are designed to be explainable. Employers cannot buy a higher position in organic relevance results. Clearly labelled sponsored placements may be offered separately.

4. Consent and other legal grounds

We seek meaningful consent where required. Some processing is necessary to provide a service you request, meet legal obligations, or protect the platform and its users.

You can change job-alert, profile-visibility, communication, and publication choices from your account. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already completed lawfully.

5. When information is shared

Information supplied by Jobs.ca candidates is shared with employers through the visibility and application choices available in the product. Employer information and active job postings may be public.

We use service providers for hosting, databases, and private file storage; email delivery; text messaging; payment processing; analytics and error monitoring (Google Analytics, PostHog, and Sentry); security and operational support; professional-profile data for Candidate Search (People Data Labs); and AI processing (OpenAI and Anthropic, as described in this policy). OpenAI receives a résumé only after the candidate’s separate request and consent. Card details are entered on our payment provider’s checkout page and are not stored by Jobs.ca. Providers receive only the information needed to perform their work and must protect it.

If you ask for job alerts by text message, we keep your mobile number encrypted and use it only to send the alerts you asked for. Texts are sent through Twilio, which processes the number and the message in the United States. You can stop them at any time by replying STOP or from your saved searches, and the number is deleted when your account is deleted.

If you reply to one of those texts, an automated assistant may read your reply so it can change your alerts, and answer by text. The assistant is Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, which processes the conversation in the United States. We keep the conversation encrypted for 90 days and include it in your data export. Replying DELETE erases it and removes your number, and it is deleted with your account. Please do not text us sensitive personal details.

Candidate Search is a separate paid sourcing service for employers. It shows professional profiles of people who have not signed up with Jobs.ca. The information comes from public professional profiles and is obtained through a data provider, People Data Labs. A profile can include a person’s name, headline and summary, job title and employer, general location, skills, work history, education, languages, and a link to their LinkedIn profile. Employers do not receive email addresses or phone numbers. Search criteria are sent to this provider through our server, and a search typed in plain words is also processed by OpenAI, with provider storage disabled, to turn it into search filters. These external profiles are not Jobs.ca applications and do not indicate that a person is seeking employment. Results and shortlists are private to the requesting employer member and are kept for up to 30 days, until the date shown on each saved profile. Saved search criteria and payment records are retained separately.

If your profile appears in Candidate Search and you want it removed, use the support form and choose the Privacy option, or email info@jobs.ca. We remove the profile from our results and keep it on a suppression list so it does not reappear. You can ask for access to or correction of a sourced profile the same way.

We may disclose information when required by law, to investigate fraud or safety concerns, or as part of a business transaction subject to appropriate safeguards.

Employers pay Jobs.ca for job postings, subscriptions, and Candidate Search credits. A Candidate Search credit pays for showing an employer one sourced professional profile, as described above. Jobs.ca does not sell candidate account or application data. Employers see a Jobs.ca candidate’s information only through that candidate’s applications and visibility choices.

6. Retention and account controls

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described here, legal obligations, dispute resolution, fraud prevention, and secure backups. Retention periods vary by record type.

The privacy dashboard lets signed-in users review visibility settings, request an export, and schedule account deletion. Some records may be retained when the law requires it or when they are necessary to protect the rights and safety of users.

7. Processing locations

Jobs.ca serves people and employers in Canada. Service providers may process information in Canada or other countries, including the United States. Information handled outside your province or Canada may be subject to the laws of that location.

8. Security and incidents

We use layered administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards. No online service can guarantee absolute security. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, Jobs.ca will investigate, document, notify affected people and regulators when required, and take steps to reduce further risk.

9. Cookies, analytics, and advertising

We use essential cookies for authentication, language, security, fraud prevention, and interface preferences. If you arrive from one of our Google ads, we also set a cookie for up to 90 days that lets us tell which ad led to a sign-up or an application.

Our pages also load these tools. Google Analytics measures how the sites are used. The Google Ads tag runs on our employer sign-up pages on Jobs.ca and Emplois.ca to measure how our own ads perform, with ad personalization signals turned off. Sentry helps us diagnose errors and keeps a replay of a sample of visits and of visits that hit an error, with page text masked and media blocked. PostHog provides product analytics and may record sessions on public pages, with text and form inputs masked. When you are signed in, PostHog and Sentry receive your internal account ID, not your name or email address.

Google Analytics does not run, and session recording and replay stop, on private account, application, and employer-workspace pages. Error reporting and product analytics continue there with page text masked. We do not intentionally send free-form search terms or protected application content to Google Analytics.

You can limit these tools today in three ways. Your browser settings let you block or delete cookies, although signing in needs the essential ones. PostHog respects your browser’s Do Not Track setting. Google offers a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) and Google Ad Settings for ad personalization, linked below.

Jobs.ca does not show Google advertising on its sites at this time. If it is turned on later, third-party vendors, including Google and participating ad-technology providers, may place or read cookies, use device identifiers, and process IP address and browser information to deliver, limit, personalize, and measure ads, and Google's advertising cookies can support ads based on prior visits to Jobs.ca or other sites.

10. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may ask to access or correct personal information, withdraw consent, question a decision, or complain about our handling of your information.

Use the support form and choose the Privacy option, or email info@jobs.ca. We will verify identity before releasing or changing protected account information and respond within the period required by applicable law.
