Students in the Aviation Diploma and the Bachelor of Aviation Management complete flight training at the Springbank airport. The Aviation department is part of the Bissett School of Business. The work schedule includes one weekend day and an early start time of 7 or 7:30 a.m. The main goal of this work is to create an efficient flight schedule. This involves using FlightLogger software and Google Drive to schedule aircraft, simulators, students, and instructors. Under the supervision of the Chief Flight Instructor, the incumbent is responsible for both long term and short term planning. Flight operations are 7 days a week, requiring a handoff to another person who covers the days off of the person in this role. Clear instructions and details need to be shared to make this handoff useful. Management of the schedule is on-going, as changes in the schedule occur daily due to maintenance, weather, and student progress. This constant change requires adaptability and flexibility in planning and ongoing revisions. Communication with flight instructors and students occurs on a daily basis. The incumbent is responsible for record keeping with respect to scheduling. Communication with administrative and maintenance staff is required to ensure accurate information flow to keep up to date with relevant scheduling information. Some administrative duties involving maintenance records relating to aircraft availability and serviceability is required. Monitoring of the flight schedule for on time performance and arrival times of flights are also part of the requirements of this role.
