Overview of role:
The Senior Manager, Operations Analytics is a senior role responsible for advancing data-driven decision-making across airline operations. This leader will oversee the development and application of advanced analytics and performance insights to improve reliability, efficiency and guest experience across WestJet's network.
Working closely with leaders across operations, commercial, guest experience, and finance this role will translate complex operational data into actionable insights that drive measurable improvements in on-time performance, aircraft utilization, turnaround execution, and overall operational resilience.
Key deliverables and responsibilities include:
- Reporting:
- Develop and maintain operational scorecards / dashboards which provide visibility into operational performance relative to historical data and industry / peer benchmarks.
- Be the voice of operational performance insights across the organization, regularly presenting monthly and ad-hoc performance to senior operational leaders and executives.
- Insights:
- Lead complex initiatives to analyze operational disruptions and service failures, aircraft turnaround performance, schedule reliability, crew and aircraft utilization, and airport-level performance.
- Through close collaboration with senior operational leaders, help diagnose root causes of delays and inefficiencies and develop data-driven solutions that improve operational execution.
- Strategic analysis:
- Lead and support advanced enterprise strategic analysis including, but not limited to, performance forecasting and scenario / sensitivity analysis to help drive enhanced network and schedule construction through operational parameter improvements and / or other ad-hoc levers.
- Strategic partnership:
- Act as a key strategic partner to senior operational leaderships, providing insights and recommendations that shape operational strategy and performance improvement initiatives.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear, compelling narratives that support executive decision-making and help drive a culture of operational excellence across the organization.
- Leadership:
- Build and lead a high performing team of analysts, including establishing best practices for analytics development, fostering a culture of curiosity and problem-solving, and ensuring strong partnerships with data, advanced analytics, and other supporting functions
Experience and qualifications:
- 8-12+ years of progressive experience in analytics, operational performance, or data-driven roles, preferably within the airline, transportation, or other complex operating environments
- Proven experience leading analytics teams and developing high-performing talent in a fast-paced, cross-functional setting
- Demonstrated track record of delivering measurable improvements in operational performance (e.g., on-time performance, turnaround efficiency, asset utilization, etc.) through data-driven insights
- Deep experience building and scaling performance reporting frameworks, including dashboards, scorecards, and KPI tracking aligned to business objectives
- Strong background in diagnosing operational issues and leading structured root cause analysis across complex systems and processes
- Deep experience conducting advanced analytics, including forecasting, scenario modeling, and sensitivity analysis to inform strategic decision-making
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and translate analytics into business action
- Proven ability to communicate complex analytical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executive-level presentations
- Advanced proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Tableau, PowerBI or similar platforms)
- Strong understanding of data modelling, data structures, and working with large, complex datasets
- Experience with forecasting techniques and statistical analysis
- Familiarity with airline operational systems and data (e.g., scheduling systems, operations control, crew management, airport systems) is an asset
