This position may be located at either the L3Harris MAS facility in Mirabel (QC), or the facility in Enfield (NS).
As the Head of IRAD and Technology at L3 MAS you will:
Reporting to the MAS Chief Engineering, the Head of IRAD and Technology will be responsible for the management of Research and Development activities at L3Harris MAS. This covers all projects including those performed by resources outside of the Engineering group. It also includes the development of projects and transaction sheets to record or bank activities to fulfill Value Proposition/Industrial and Technological Benefits (VP/ITB) requirements.
To achieve this, you will be called upon to:
The MAS Head of IRAD and Technology responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Identify, develop and manage Research and Development projects within the budget envelope assigned for R&D with staff appointed by various departments;
Develop yearly R&D budget and project breakdown for submission and approval by MAS, sector and segment management;
Prepare monthly R&D project update for the MAS Business Review Meeting and sector and segment operational reviews;
Assume the role of primary interface for all R&D matters at the EO Sector and the IMS Segment;
Develop projects and transaction sheets to record or bank activities to fulfill L3Harris MAS’ VP/ITB commitments in conjunction with proposal managers, project managers and the Manager Business Development and Industrial Participation;
Lead the preparation of the technical portion of yearly R&D claims to Revenue Canada;
Develop and staff technology demonstrations for potential clients and visitors to demonstrate L3Harris MAS capabilities;
Co-Chair Technology IPTs with BD to maintain and update the MAS 3 year Technology Roadmap targeting current and future Business opportunities requirements;
Coordinate the CapEx requests for those projects that have dependencies on capital acquisitions or major IS/IT acquisitions;
Develop and maintain a network of key contacts in the innovation sector such as CRIAQ, AIAC innovation committee, Aero-Montréal Innovation committee, research organization and universities in the Montreal area and in other regions of Canada, SMEs developing applicable ISS technologies, etc.
Be a graduate of mechanical, electrical, software, structural, systems or aerospace engineering from a recognized university. A Master’s degree is an asset;
Minimum of 15 years of relevant aerospace engineering experience and with progressively more technical management responsibilities;
Bilingualism is required (French and English);
Experience in project management is an asset;
Experience with military in-service support programs is an asset;
Experience in the management of research and development activities is an asset.
Operational requirements :
Must be eligible for registration to the Controlled Goods Program;
Must be eligible to obtaining and maintaining the government of Canada’s “Reliability” status and Level 2 (Secret) security clearance;
Location not accessible via public transportation, car required.
