Job Description

Safran Electronics and Defense Canada designs and manufactures electronic control units and components for aerospace and safety critical applications. Our multidisciplinary team consists of product, hardware, software and test specialists with a vast array of skills and competencies to meet the rigorous demands of the market.

A Hardware-PCB Designer requires advanced formal training and experience in Electrical/Mechanical engineering education, superior problem solving skills and independent decision-making ability. Responsibilities include designing and implementing electronic hardware systems in a team setting. The Hardware-PCB Designer is responsible for the electrical and mechanical packaging design of printed circuit boards and the generation of manufacturing packages (Assembly Drawings, BOMs, Change Orders, etc.); is responsible for the coordination of the activities pertaining to the design and production of the manufacturing packages; is responsible of controlling and sustaining the configuration change of the data throughout the development cycle and transition to production; is responsible for sustaining the configuration of the data as part of the component obsolescence management process; is responsible for providing estimates for workloads of the activities and reporting on work progress to the Technical Lead. This position reports to Hardware Engineering Manager

Complementary Description

Responsibilities:

· Capture circuit schematics designed by the Electrical (Hardware) Engineering staff.

· Create and sustain components symbols and footprint databases.

· Perform Electrical/Mechanical design and layout of Printed Circuit Boards.

· Capture and refine mechanical requirements.

· Document designs and demonstrate compliance.

· Participate in environmental qualification testing.

· Sustain the Design for Manufacturing Requirements (DFM) and the Design for Assembly Requirements (DFA).

· Generate Manufacturing Package and Assembly Drawings and the associated documentation for Procurement.

· Generate and maintain BOMs (Parts/Lists).

· Support configuration and release of baseline pertaining to the PCB data.

· Sustain the CAD tools used for the generation of PCB data.

· Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

· Electrical technologist/technician diploma, or equivalent experience and education.

· Experienced in CAD software (ORCAD, PADS, Allegro).

· Proficient on Microsoft Office Tools advanced features (Word, Project, Access and Excel).

· Superior verbal and written communication skills required.

· Strong problem solving and interpersonal skills are required.

· Ability to meet multiple demands and deadlines along with strong organizational skills.

Required Skills:

· Develop and deliver schematics correctly for implementation.

· Ability to produce designs that fulfill compliance requirements.

· Accurately perform environmental qualification analysis and reports.

· Prepare production materials and packages for manufacturability.

· Facilitate and guide inter-departmental cooperation towards common goal.

· Knowledgeable in environmental qualification testing techniques and set up.

· Make improvements to production performance and techniques.

· Manage and control BOMs accurately.

· Knowledgeable on configuration of PCB data.

· Educate, motivate personnel and drive performance. Provide technical guidance.

· Up-to-date knowledge on CAD tools and deployment.

· Manage hardware related work packages and reporting structure.
