Position Overview:

Responsible to the Supervisor, CH149 Engineering, for the conduct of engineering support and life-cycle management of CH149 Cormorant airframe structures and/or mechanical systems. The Aero/Mech Engineer will support the In-Service Support of the Canadian Cormorant Search and Rescue (SAR) Helicopter in repair design, monitoring of aircraft system performance and maintenance requirements, and the recommendation of improvements as necessary to optimize life-cycle costs.

What You Will Do:

  • Design and develop non-standard repairs for aircraft structures and/or mechanical systems.
  • Complete stress/structural analyses of repairs and modifications.
  • Monitor the health of mechanical components and systems within assigned Air Transport Association (ATA) chapter of responsibility.
  • Conduct activities associated with implementing and monitoring corrective action regarding service difficulty reporting, special inspections, service bulletins and airworthiness directives.
  • Develop preventative measures, identify trends, and determine fleet impact on Flight Safety (FS) Occurrences.
  • Review and assess OEM design changes and provide recommendations to the Senior Design Engineer.
  • Inform the Senior Design Engineer of in-service issues that are determined to result in degradation to aircraft safety.
  • Coordinate the delivery of technical advice to maintenance personnel.
  • Conduct and support the assessment of airworthiness risk on the aircraft structure including preparation and review of Airworthiness Impact Assessments and Records of Airworthiness Risk Management.
  • Prepare and review engineering reports, technical memoranda and technical directions.
  • Provide support to the configuration management and data management activities of the department.
  • Support engineering projects and initiatives as requested.
  • Support the activities of the department in respect to maintenance program monitoring, maintenance rationalization, and maintenance requirements analysis.
  • Support identification of performance criteria/objectives for CH149 aircraft structures, in-service performance monitoring to these criteria, and technical investigations to identify and correct deficiencies or reduce life-cycle cost.
  • Amalgamate and analyze departmental performance data to support Key Performance Indicator tracking and implementation.
  • In extraordinary circumstances and when required by operational necessity, provide weekend and after-hours support to Search and Rescue Operations.

What You Will Bring:

  • B.Eng. or B.Sc. (Eng.) in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to learn.
  • Possess clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the MS Office and MS Windows environments.
  • Experience with one or more of the following is not necessary but will be considered an asset:
  • Aircraft structures
  • Mechanical systems
  • Mechanical design
  • Composite structures
  • CAD
  • Aircraft component manufacturing processes
  • Non-Destructive Testing and Inspection
  • Durability and Damage Tolerance Analysis
  • Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with people at all levels, both within the organization and those in outside agencies.
  • Must be self-motivated and possess good self-discipline with an ability to work independently when required.
  • Must possess an ability to logically assimilate information and identify related causal factors, as well as to effectively prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC- Contract Security Program, and Transport Canada RAIC clearance.
