The Torngat Mountain National Park - An Inuit Homeland, one of the last untamed, unspoiled places left on earth. Comprised of 9,700 square kilometers of spectacular wilderness, the Park stretches north from Saglek Fjord to the northern tip of Labrador, and westward from the Atlantic seacoast to the Québec border. It's a land of mountains, polar bears, small glaciers, and caribou, where the Inuit hunt, fish, and travel as their ancestors did.


Air Borealis
is currently seeking a Fixed-Term Base Camp Medic for the Torngat Mountains Project. This position would be located at the Torngat Mountain base camp for the approximate duration of July - September, 2024.

What to Expect in the Torngat Mountain National Park:

  • Operate in a remote isolated camp in a stunning natural environment for nine weeks.
  • Make connections and ever-lasting friendships with people from all over the world.
  • Travel an experience different remarkable landmarks that all have a story to tell, by helicopter or zodiac boat.
  • Hike unique Inuit ancestral grounds.
  • Witness wildlife in their natural habitats.
  • Sleep beneath the picturesque northern lights.
  • Ensure guests have an excellent time by sharing experiences with them such as fishing, iceberg watching, swimming in pristine bodies of water, amongst many other cultural activities!

Job Duties:

  • Administer medical care and first aid to guests, staff, and other personnel.
  • Attend to the emergencies in the field.
  • Maintain health file and records of the Guest, staff and other personnel at Base Camp and keep them up to date.
  • Conduct medical tests to ascertain the reason of ill health.
  • Regularly check the health of the personnel.
  • Maintain the health equipment in the medical facility.
  • Provide on-site care, observation and evaluation for sick guests and staff.
  • Document and maintain records of all first aid treatments and medications dispensed.
  • Review and maintain files of all guests' medical forms and waivers.
  • Uphold privacy of all guests and staff.
  • Maintain inventory of all camp first aid supplies and order supplies as needed.
  • Check and maintain first aid related facilities, Guide Kits, equipment, and personal first aid kit on a daily basis.
  • Provide information and support camp staff on all medical and health matters and work with camp staff on any medical or health related matters.
  • Report daily to the Base Camp Manager on any first aid treatments or health issues
  • Assist all guests with special needs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Base camp first aid tent.
  • Conduct any needed communication with the guests on medical or health matters.
  • Act as a substitute counselor as staffing levels requires.
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Nursing and/or Paramedic license with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience working as a Nurse and/or a Paramedic.
  • Knowledge of common remote camp activities and injuries.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations and administer first aid.
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor environment.
  • Patience and ability to work with people of all ages.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours and be on call as needed
