Position Summary

Non Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician is responsible to ensure that NDT tasks are performed in accordance with approved or acceptable procedures in an appropriate amount of time and in accordance with applicable quality standards. Confirm that the equipment being used has been calibrated as required and ensure they are capable of performing tasks assigned to them.

The NDT Technician will communicate effectively with department managers and other employees and our sister companies as well as outside clients.

The NDT Technician is responsible for ensuring that their work is carried out in a safe manner and in accordance with applicable safety standards.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Technical credibility – understand and appropriately apply procedures, requirements, regulations and policies related to specialized expertise.
  • Ensure that work is performed within the limitations of their SCA or done under the supervision of appropriately authorized ACA/SCA holder.
  • Shall be familiar with NDT shop manual and the MPM.
  • Responsible for maintaining yearly eye exams IAW Canadian CAN/CGSB – 48.9712 requirements and keeping up to date with online studies.
  • Travel as required to facilitate customer inspections.
  • Effectively communicate with a large variety of engineering staff on varied technical issues for both aircraft and industrial applications.
  • Ensure that tasks are completed in an effective manner and that the quality of the work performed is per applicable company and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure that equipment being used has been calibrated as required.
  • Ensure that tools and equipment required are available and safe for use.
  • Ensure that required publications and technical data are available and current.
  • Correspond directly with customers in person, via email or via phone.
  • Organize and plan jobs from both internal and external sources to meet the needs of the customers and NDT shop while ensuring Perimeter and sister companies do not lack the support for their NDT inspections.
  • Edit manuscripts by reviewing critically from subject matter standpoint, checking and verifying content, condensing topics, making additions to topics and rearranging material if required (such as Perimeter NDT Proc 001).
  • Follow direction of SCA qualified staff for on-the-job training and, once qualified, train/mentor junior staff as instructed by management.
  • Ensure that all tasks are carried out in a safe manner IAW with applicable safety codes.
  • Ensure that good housekeeping practices are followed.
  • Make recommendations on policies and procedures to improve productivity and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Manager or Director.

Education and Experience

  • Possess CAN/CGSB – 48.9712 (Canadian qualification and certification of NDT personnel) level 2 (or 3) certification in Eddy Current, Radiography and/or Ultrasonic testing. Liquid Penetrant and Magnetic Particle processes are considered assets as well.
  • Ability to qualify for WAA (Winnipeg Airport Authority) Security clearance pass.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work with controlled goods, which requires a criminal records and reference check.
  • Some marketing experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Hands-on NDT experience on a wide variety of aircraft, components and industrial environments is an asset.
  • Experience working in a changing and demanding work environment.
  • Education and/or hands-on training in Microsoft Office software.
  • WHMIS training.
  • Indigenous awareness and/or Cultural Diversity Training.
  • Applicable safety courses.
