Position Summary

The Manager, Cargo Operations provides leadership, direction, operational and technical support to individuals within the Cargo Operations Department. The individual is the leader of sales and service management within the department and is responsible to coach, mentor and develop a team of employees ensuring that all sales and service standards are maintained, and policies and procedures are adhered to. Provides support and back up and works closely with the Assistant Cargo Operations Manager in Winnipeg and Thompson to ensure that business plans are met and that customers receive seamless and high-quality service at all times.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to employees within the department, ensuring that service and sales standards are achieved and customer expectations are surpassed.
  • Responsible and accountable for preparing and delivering performance plans and reviews for all employees within the Department, ensuring quality customer service is provided, timely and appropriate feedback as well as coaching.
  • Ensure that freight shipping service levels are met out of Thompson and Winnipeg.
  • Maintain and update a portfolio of freight customers, regularly meeting the top Cargo customers.
  • Process special promotions and incentives program enrollment requests, maintain and administer customer files.
  • Create a respectful environment that stimulates growth and encourages employees to realize their maximum potential and encourages professional development.
  • Maintain an optimal level of customer service in the Cargo Department by coordinating day to day duties, staffing schedules such as holidays, lunch hours/breaks, and organize staff attendance for seminars/training.
  • Resolve and assist in resolving customer complaints, refunds, claims.
  • Ensure that regular audits are performed on processes and procedures followed by his/her staff and keep track of audit results to manage staff performance and determine corrective action plans when necessary.
  • Conduct documentation audits in accordance with instructions and intervals set by Perimeter’s Safety, Quality and Security Department, or other Departments within the Organization, in order to comply with regulatory governing bodies’ requirements.
  • Provide technical, operational direction and support to department staff, answer questions and handle customer inquiries or complaints referred by other employees.
  • Assist in the preparation of yearly department budgets and ensure that budget targets are met.
  • Work on projects assigned by the VP Business Operations.
  • Responsible and accountable for maintaining thorough knowledge of relevant Perimeter Aviation LP policies and procedures on internal control and risk management and consistently apply them, ensuring his or her staff applies them as well.
  • Ensure that Cargo Operations Department staff members are in full compliance with the Company’s training requirements.
  • Responsible and accountable for complying with the duties and responsibilities outlined in the SMS manual for the “Department Managers”.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service, that is positive, friendly, and supportive.
  • Ensure at all times that all employees are complying with safety policies and regulations.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative attitude while working on all job tasks and provide assistance and support to others.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the department e.g. Ramp Supervisor, other department supervisors/managers and applicable staff.
  • Maintain constant communication between yourself, direct manager, coworkers ensuring teams are informed of updates, changes, procedures etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor operational safety ensuring that staff is maintaining company safety standards for the protection of themselves and others.
  • Develop training programs for the Cargo Operations department.
  • Monitor and maintain that efficiency and on time performance are actively present and supported by all staff.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead the team towards achieving high levels of customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
  • Actively participate, offering suggestions and/or recommendations towards department improvements, e.g. attending operational safety meetings, occupational health and safety committee.
  • Work closely with other department managers, providing support and ongoing collaboration where needed, e.g. projects, manpower, equipment, operational standards.
  • Ensure all new and existing employees are trained and supplied with necessary resources for job performance.
  • Work closely with the Northern Operations Department ensuring the northern agents are aware of all new policies and procedures and ensure they are being enforced.

Education and Experience

  • Some college completed
  • Management courses, Microsoft Office Courses
  • 2 years of experience working with Amelia computer system
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Ability to obtain a WAA RAIC pass and an AVOP
  • Forklift license or complete applicable training
  • Cultural diversity training considered an asset

Working Conditions

  • Work performed both indoors and outdoors; employee must be able to adapt to all outdoor weather conditions.
  • Various shifts and at a fast pace in order to meet service level requirements of the airline.
  • In good general health and the ability to lift and bend, carrying loads of up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to carry and operate a radio.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Safety equipment when & where required e.g. hearing protection, safety vest, protective footwear, and applicable passes.
