Overview

The Finance Department is seeking a Manager of Operational Accounting to join a seasoned accounting team. The ideal candidate is energetic, hands-on, and has experience working in a large accounting team.

The Manager of Operational Accounting will oversee the operational accounting function within the company, specifically focusing on supporting integrity of the accounts payable (AP) function and the accurate accounting for payroll transactions. The ideal candidate will be passionate about preserving controls over these key operational processes.

The Manager of Operational Accounting will oversee the operational accounting function within the company, specifically focusing on supporting integrity of the accounts payable (AP) function and the accurate accounting for payroll transactions. Responsibilities

The position will be generally responsible for the following duties and will evolve over time:
  • Manage and lead a team of AP technicians, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
  • Perform detailed review of invoices (coding, currency, correct GST claims etc.) before they are circulated to operations and C-suite for approval.
  • Perform AP subledger and vendor statement reconciliations.
  • Perform credit card reconciliations.
  • Treasury activities including weekly payment summaries and troubleshooting bank issues.
  • Support the payroll process by reviewing inputs (including wage calculations) and uploads to the payroll system (Avanti), ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Prepare detailed payroll entries, reconcile clearing accounts, vacation accruals, savings account matches, remittances, benefit contributions and deductions.
  • Troubleshoot coding issues in Avanti as they relate to payroll GL accounts.
  • Awareness of process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy in AP and payroll processes.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to investigate and understand how the details of the accounting systems provide robust controls with the aim of improving overall effectiveness and accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Month end close processes, including but not limited to creating and entering complex journal entries, and monthly reconciliation of various accounts.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce majoring in accounting or CPA
  • 5 – 10 years of experience working in a complex accounting team
  • Advanced skills using MS Excel to support reconciliation process
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
