Overview of role:

The Cargo Optimization Coordinator provides remarkable service to both our internal and external clients. This service includes: supporting agents in the Cargo Warehouses, Cargo Contact Centre, WestJet Load Control, WestJet Operations Control Centre (OCC), Airport Operations, and our WestJet Cargo customers.

Cargo Optimization Coordinators support cargo movement throughout the network and strive to enhance and increase the productivity and profitability of WestJet Cargo. This is done by proactively reviewing daily shipments and coordinating the resolution of problems that arise. Cargo Optimization Coordinators will be responsible for managing and optimizing the day of operations for the WestJet Cargo network by managing priority and capacity for cargo, monitoring of specialized shipments, and ensuring cargo is moving through the system as planned.

Cargo Optimization Coordinators must possess effective problem-solving skills, consistently provide exceptional service and must be willing and able to contribute to the development of a growing team.

Key deliverables include:

  • Provide support to external clients, including WestJet Cargo Warehouses, interline partners, key customers, and cargo clients
  • Focus on proactive solutions to daily operational challenges
  • Support the end-to-end movement of shipments with all concerned shippers, consignees, warehouses, ramp, etc.
  • Assist with the investigative process regarding mishandled, lost, damaged or pilfered items, service failures or IROPs that occur in the daily operation
  • Provide a remarkable internal client experience by providing guidance and support to our teams as the subject matter expert on cargo processes while remaining solution focused at all times
  • Perform capacity management duties
  • Review flight delay codes related to cargo for accuracy and dispute as required
  • Provide detailed tracking review and information on cargo discrepancies and occurrences to the Cargo Operations Lead
  • Adhoc cargo projects as assigned

Experience and qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in cargo sales and/or operations environment
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with computers and experience working within a Windows-based environment, including Office 365 and MS Office applications
  • The ability to communicate in clear, accurate, concise, and professional manner
  • Must be able to communicate with an advanced level of written and spoken English; additional language skills in French or Spanish are an asset
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload
  • High degree of motivation and commitment to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a focus on operational excellence, accuracy, and sense of urgency
  • The ability to multi-task during high stress situations with minimal supervision
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and handle high call and email volumes
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capability of establishing respect and credibility through actions
  • All agents in the role must meet performance, attendance and punctuality expectations
  • Able to work shift work 24/7/365 on shifts up to 12 hours in duration; flexible and able to work early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
