Specific Job Description

  • The selected candidate will be performing electrical/mechanical engineering design tasks relating to shipboard cable management, cable design and interconnecting of electronic equipment.
  • They should have knowledge of M-CAD and E-CAD tools, excellent written and verbal communications skills, and ability to work in a flexible and dynamic team environment.
Areas of responsibilities include:
  • Interface with ship design teams, Combat Systems Integrated Product Teams to support detailed component performance spec (PS) and Interface Control Drawing (ICD) interpretation, including assembly manufacturing drawings, parts lists, cable design, and engineering change support.
  • Support program planning from a cost, technical and schedule perspective, conceptual design, trade studies, drawing generation and documentation release, and testing requirements.
  • Selected candidate will also interface with other disciplines, such as Ship Design Agent, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to ensure program requirements are being met.
  • Candidate will perform various duties including developing cabling lists, connector lists, investigating design factors such as equipment or part availability, manufacturability, ease of assembly, weight and cost; evaluating vendor furnished information/designs; developing and maintaining all assembly and test documentation; trouble shooting and correcting anomalies and managing the Combat Systems Cable Management Database.
  • The incumbent will also participate in failure investigation teams.
  • Candidate may be required to provide support to both in-house and outside cable manufacture and fabrication.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Electrical Engineering Degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience or five years experience in Naval, Power Systems or Utility environment.
  • Working knowledge of AC and DC power systems, including transformers, UPS systems, transformers, power line filters, breakers, relays and related basic electrical power elements.
  • Good overall knowledge of Marine and land based Electrical power distribution and safety systems.
  • Experience dealing with electrical sub-contractors on equipment and cabling matters.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC shielding techniques, cable segregation and separation, filtering and bonding and grounding.
  • Experience reviewing and producing:
    -System block diagrams, Electrical schematic diagrams, Electrical termination drawings, Cableway layout drawings
  • Good communication skills and proficient use of MS office tools is an asset.
  • Valid Security Clearance preferred.
