Manager, Airport Terminal Projects

Position overview 

Are you an expert at cross-team planning and coordination within a complex multi-year project portfolio?  Do you excel at formal and informal communications, interpreting and sharing portfolio-level information, and creative problem solving in a dynamic 24/7 environment?

We have a new and exciting permanent, full-time opportunity for a Manager, Airport Terminal Projects with a program management focus at YVR. Reporting to the Director, Engineering Projects, the successful candidate will be responsible for advance planning and development of upcoming investment projects, coordinating active work across multiple teams, and overseeing portfolio reporting for airport terminal renewal, renovation and expansion projects. The successful candidate will interact heavily with operational and project teams at all levels of the organization along with external partners, contractors and community members in the course of planning and monitoring the airport terminal portfolio of programs and individual projects.

This position plays a key role in supporting achievement of the YVR Strategic Plan, contributing to asset management and maintaining a state of good repair, environmental sustainability through our Roadmap to Net Zero by 2030, and financial sustainability through growth of revenue-generating opportunities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and direction to a team of project support staff including hiring, coaching, motivating and monitoring work efforts and performance; providing guidance and support to a broader team of project managers/engineers
  • Applying sound business principles and superior project/program management skills to successfully deliver a rolling investment program
  • Overseeing and providing expertise in the early development and coordination of programs and projects, including a successful handover to the project delivery team and establishment of operational interfaces
  • Ensuring work is aligned with organizational strategy, that programs and projects achieve intended outcomes, and that implementation addresses customer and operational expectations
  • Maintaining currency in program and project management best practices, aviation industry developments and airport-specific requirements
  • Leading the ongoing improvement of program/project management tools, processes and reports used by the team

Key qualifications include:

  • At least eight years of recent, progressive experience managing a portfolio of building projects from concept to completion, supplemented by a university degree in engineering; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of British Columbia (or eligible for professional registration), certified as a Project/Program Management Professional, and/or hold another relevant professional designation
  • Demonstrated management/supervisory experience with a leadership style that engages and inspires a team of professionals through coaching and development and the promotion of collaboration and teamwork
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in the English language with respect to report writing and giving oral presentations
  • High energy, well organized, detail oriented and adaptable to changing priorities

Salary Range : $117,040 to $168,245 per annum, based on 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity. Performance-Based Incentive: Eligible for an annual bonus target at 15% of your annual salary.
