Junior Systems Engineer

Position overview

We are offering a permanent, full-time opportunity for a JuniorSystems Engineer to join our Airport System Design team within the Airport Capacity Department. Reporting to the Manager, Airport System Design, the successful candidate will collaborate with various Airport Authority departments and business partners to provide process design and demand/capacity assessments for airport facilities. This dynamic role will guide operational planning and support long range airport project development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Breakdown complex systems and work collaboratively with operational stakeholders to capture current processes and define future processing requirements.
  • Collaborate with various departments to provide a consistent planning basis and define future facility requirements by translating strategic goals into operational objectives and system requirements, then transforming system requirements into clear, concise verification plans.
  • Supporting the development of the long-term capital plan through translation of the long-term passenger forecast, design day schedule and process definitions, inputs and assumptions into facility requirements based on analytical demand and capacity assessments.
  • Supporting operational planning by completing current and short-term analytical assessments of passenger, baggage and aircraft movement demands and capacity.
  • Participating as a design team member for capital projects as airport capacity SME.  Providing designers with capacity requirements and demand assessments.
  • Providing project management of specific planning initiatives or studies related to airport facility development.

Key qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Design, Industrial, Process or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), plus eligibility to register as Professional Engineer or an Engineer in Training with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC)
  • 2 years’ work experience in process design, facility planning, operational research or application of statistical techniques. Simulation modelling in an operational environment is considered an asset
  • Demonstrate ability to understand the interactions between complex systems and resolve challenges/conflicts across multiple systems by applying changes to other associated systems
  • Knowledge of airport operations, airport design and industrial and system design engineering principals and techniques would be considered an asset
  • Strong project management, organization and documentation abilities, as well as effective communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Project and Outlook. Experience with data analysis with R or Python, simulation modelling and CAD would be considered an asset

This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.

Salary Range : $87,296 to $114,912 per annum, based on 37.5 hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
