Overview of role:

WestJet is seeking a Project Manager reporting into our Project Management office. This individual can demonstrate a high standard of excellence, enjoys challenges, and is results-driven. The incumbent must be highly motivated and demonstrate the ability to work in an agile environment.

As a Senior Project Manager within the Project Management Office (PMO) team, you will lead complex projects with business, operational and/or technology components. You will provide project leadership and support strategic initiatives crossing business areas and operational teams to define project objectives, ensure timely completion of projects and measure results. You are accountable for building a high performing team that will deliver the traditional project outcomes (on-time, on-budget, on-schedule) and ensuring the project is set up to achieve the desired business outcomes. You thrive in an environment of actively managing work, informal authority and you are adept at leveraging relationships and influencing stakeholders at all levels in the organization. You are a master problem solver and can facilitate conflict towards a win-win outcome with little-to-no formal escalation.

This position can be based in Calgary AB or Canada remote and is a work from home opportunity.

Key deliverables include:

  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional, cross-organization teams to negotiate and integrate project plans, secure commitments on deliverables, and resolve blocking issues.
  • Identify, track and manage project dependencies to ensure optimal utilization of resources, ongoing risk identification and timely benefits realization on the project level.
  • Cultivate relationships to provide project leadership and communicate vision and strategy in a high matrix environment.
  • Manage conflict in larger groups and quickly build strong relationships with team members and key stakeholders in a remote environment.
  • Ensure organizational alignment and documentation on scope, schedule, quality benefits and define, implement and monitor appropriate controls to proactively deal with barriers to completion.
  • Identify stakeholders and manage at varying levels within the organization, tailoring your style and approach to meet their needs, both in-person and remote.
  • Actively engage with teams from business case development through project delivery to ensure project optimization and alignment with strategy.
  • Communicate at various levels, from senior business stakeholders to subject matter experts (business and technology) in designing and developing solutions to meet business needs.
  • Actively engage with business areas to ensure access to knowledgeable personnel and execution of project planning and organizational governance.
  • Ensure your project establishes a baseline and delivers on the commitment and benefits and establishes metrics to proactively identify areas of risk and allow planning for mitigation.

Experience and qualifications:

  • 10+ years of direct Project Management experience with increasing complexity.
  • Highly motivated, passionate, persuasive, and capable of quickly establishing credibility in launching and managing projects to both aid in the airline’s recovery and enhance our guest’s experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science or another relevant field. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Highly proficient in MS Project and O365 product suite
  • A background in heavily regulated environments is preferred
  • PMP Certification is strongly preferred, but not required
  • Industry recognized certifications, specifically in Change Management (PROSCI) or Agile considered an asset
