Overview of the role:

We are looking for a highly motivated person with a passion for all aspects of Data Governance to join our team. This is a unique opportunity for analysts or architects that want to focus more on an enterprise service and drive our product to build a data governance platform is no easy task, so we are looking for the right person to help us achieve this mission. The Data Governance Program Manager will be the primary leader responsible for the centralized Data Governance practice. This involves in all the aspects of data governance, liaising with all levels of management, from working groups to executives.

As Program Manager - Data Governance, this role will report into the Director of Data and BI, directly driving the data governance practice forward and will guide the success of enterprise data projects and will be instrumental in enabling business line analytics teams throughout the enterprise.

This position can be based in Calgary AB, Toronto ON, or can work remotely from anywhere within Canada.

Key deliverables include:

  • Develop, document, and evolve frameworks, standards, processes, guidelines, and user guides for data governance operations and tools.
  • Develop and maintain our inventory of data assets. Manage the product roadmap and backlog
  • Promote data governance within the organization by developing an inclusive environment for responsible use of data and education on data literacy.
  • Bridge the gap between our organizational data policies set by our Data Governance Council.
  • Stay abreast of data security standards and align/contribute to data security processes.
  • Define and maintain data quality measures for enterprise data. Work with the Risk and Compliance team to set standards and guidelines for data assets.
  • Participate in the procurement and implementation of data governance and implementation of data governance related tools and technologies
  • Work within a virtual team of resources including third-party vendors coordinating and facilitating work items. This includes developers, testers, UX designers, business analysts and scrum masters.
  • Maintain service level requirements for the product. Coordinating between cross-functional operations teams as required.
  • Partner with the risk and compliance team to conform to corporate compliance and regulatory standards. Including PCI, GDPR, PIPEDA, CCPA etc

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma required in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of data governance frameworks, stewardship, or related experience
  • 3+ years of experience working in data management disciplines
  • Experience working with data security and compliance
  • Experience in data analysis, data integration, quality, security, and compliance
  • Experience with implementing data management/governance tools
  • Experience with industry data management toolsets, ETL processes, data quality management, master data management, and meta-data management
  • Experience with complex data maps and business requirements
  • Experience working with stakeholders at various levels
  • Experience organizing and facilitating meetings
  • Experience with organizational change management
  • Excellent communications skill with experience with all levels of senior management
  • Experience working with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Strong understanding of Product Management
  • Strong understanding of Development and Data lifecycle processes and methodologies
  • Capability to understand complex data maps and business requirements
  • Experience using MS Suite of tools including Office, SharePoint, and Teams
